Well you only need to get it once, you don't actually have to keep it. I got my quest cape before the night at the theater quest was released and made sure to do the diary task to do the emote. I still haven't done that fucking quest but I finally completed the elite diary a couple days ago when I got my quest cape like 2 years ago.
